Programme Overview

Pragjyotishpur University offers B.A. (Honours) and Integrated M.A. in Assamese under its School of Language, Literature & Linguistics. The programme provides comprehensive study of Assamese language structure, grammar, phonetics, and linguistic nuances alongside in-depth engagement with major Assamese literary genres — poetry, drama, prose, folk literature, and contemporary writing.

The Integrated M.A. pathway allows students to pursue advanced studies in Assamese without a separate entrance examination, providing a smooth academic progression into postgraduate studies under NEP 2020 frameworks.

  • 3 Develop understanding of Assamese culture — including traditions, practices, festivals, ethnic diversity, and local cultural expressions — as integrated with literature.
  • 4 Enable critical appreciation and interpretation of texts including poetry, prose, drama, and literary criticism, with comparative perspectives from Indian and world literatures.
  • 5 Instil communication and language skills (reading, writing, speaking) with practical competency in Assamese for academic, social, and professional contexts.
  • 6 Cultivate analytical, creative, and research skills so learners can analyse literary/cultural phenomena and undertake independent or guided research.
