Pragjyotishpur University, Hajongbari, Chandrapur, organised Diksharambha 2026 on 10 August 2026, marking the formal commencement of the academic journey of students of the new batch for the Academic Session 2026–27. The occasion also marked an important milestone in the University's infrastructural development with the inauguration of its newly constructed residential facilities for the University community. The programme was graced by Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Government of Assam, as the Chief Guest. The distinguished guests present on the occasion included Lt Gen (Retd.) Shri Rana Pratap Kalita, Chancellor, Pragjyotishpur University; Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, Pragjyotishpur University; Dr. Devobrat Khanikor, Registrar, Pragjyotishpur University; Dr. Tapan Das, Hon’ble MLA, Dimoria Legislative Assembly Constituency; Dr. Jagadindra Ray Choudhury, Secretary, Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra; Dr. Pawan Tiwari, Organising Secretary, Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra; and Shri Basistha Bujarbaruah, Kshetra Pracharak, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Faculty members, officers, staff, students and other distinguished invitees also attended the programme. The programme commenced with Vande Mataram and Axom Sangeet, followed by Deep Prajvalan and Saraswati Vandana. The dignitaries were felicitated thereafter, followed by the welcome address of the Registrar, the address of the Chief Guest, the Chancellor’s message and the Diksharambha address by the Vice Chancellor. Education rooted in Bharatiya Gyan Parampara Addressing the gathering, Dr. Ranoj Pegu emphasised the need for universities to move beyond conventional curricula in response to the changing requirements of society, technology and the employment landscape. He called for innovative, industry-oriented and skill-based education that develops practical competencies, digital skills, critical thinking, communication and entrepreneurial abilities. He further emphasised that contemporary academic content should be meaningfully integrated with Bharatiya Gyan Parampara and Bharatiya Darshan, creating an education system that combines modern knowledge and professional skills with India’s rich intellectual and philosophical traditions. A message of discipline and perseverance Addressing the students, Chancellor Lt Gen (Retd.) Shri Rana Pratap Kalita highlighted the importance of determination, discipline, self-control and perseverance in shaping a meaningful life. He encouraged students to remain focused on their aspirations, face challenges with composure and use technology wisely as an instrument for learning, growth and personal development. Pragjyotishpur University as a “Gurutirtha” In his Diksharambha address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra Prasad Tiwari presented the vision of Pragjyotishpur University as a “Gurutirtha”—a space where knowledge, values, intellectual inquiry and personal development come together. He stressed the importance of harmonising modern technology and contemporary knowledge with Bharatiya Gyan Parampara, Bharatiya Darshan, Adhyatma and cultural heritage. He encouraged students to cultivate Viveka, critical thinking, questioning and intellectual dialogue, while remaining firmly rooted in Indian values. Invoking the traditions of Tarka and Vada, and drawing inspiration from Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva and Veer Lachit Borphukan, the Vice Chancellor urged students to develop creativity, leadership, adaptability and intellectual courage. Inauguration of Sandipani Bhawan and Panini Bhawan A significant part of the programme was the formal inauguration of the University's newly developed residential infrastructure. The Registrar’s residential bungalow was named “Sandipani Bhawan”, while the Faculty Residential Quarters were named “Panini Bhawan.” The naming reflects the University's commitment to preserving and promoting the ideals of Bharatiya Gyan Parampara within its contemporary institutional environment. Sandipani Bhawan commemorates Guru Sandipani, revered in the Indian tradition as the teacher of Sri Krishna and symbolising the sacred Guru–Shishya Parampara and the transformative power of education. Panini Bhawan commemorates Panini, the celebrated ancient Indian grammarian and scholar, whose contribution represents a remarkable achievement in India's linguistic and intellectual heritage. The newly inaugurated residential facilities are intended to strengthen the University's residential, academic and administrative ecosystem and contribute towards creating a more integrated and conducive campus environment for its faculty and academic community. A new beginning rooted in values Diksharambha 2026 thus represented more than the beginning of a new academic session. It reflected Pragjyotishpur University's larger educational vision of bringing together knowledge and wisdom, technology and tradition, skills and values, and professional excellence and character. The occasion welcomed a new generation of students into the University community while simultaneously marking another step in the University's institutional development through the creation of dedicated residential facilities for its academic and administrative community. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks followed by the Rashtriya Sangeet.
